BNL Blood Drive
Next Blood Drive: December 12, 2013 Brookhaven National Laboratory – a legacy of caring…Brookhaven National Laboratory has been organizing Blood Drives for the past thirty years. Our employees and guests have generously rolled up their sleeves to anonymously give of themselves to individuals in our Long Island Community. In partnership with the Long Island Blood Services (LIBS), a division of New York Blood Center, we encourage donations of life-giving blood to our friends, neighbors and families in dire need in hospitals throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens. These hospitals require approximately 800 units of blood each day to meet routine needs. We take our role seriously; therefore supervisors and managers are fully supportive and encourage staff to participate in this vital process. We welcome you to our Blood Donation web site and invite you to take a few minutes to review the site, prior to scheduling your blood donation. Many of you have been steadfast blood donors, and we, along with thousands of unknown families, thank you for your selfless support. For those of you who are contemplating donating blood for the first time we are sure you will find that the joy of knowing that you have provided hope and health to others, far outweighs the time and slight discomfort involved. Thank you for your interest and hope to see you at our blood drives.

You give a very special gift of life by donating through platelet apheresis (ay-fer-ee-sis). Platelets are essential for blood clotting. They are routinely needed to support cancer therapy, open heart surgery, blood disorders and organ transplants. Platelets must be transfused within five days, requiring the supply to be constantly replenished. Because platelets are quickly replenished by your body, you can donate every 3 days, but no more than 24 times a year.
Please call 1-800-688-0900 to make an appointment at the following apheresis centers.
