Today, Brookhaven National Laboratory sits in the geographical center of Long Island. To the west, New York City boasts Broadway shows, museums, international cuisine, and shopping. Eastern Long Island beckons with spectacular ocean beaches, lovely bays, a burgeoning wine industry, and picturesque country roads dotted with farm stands. Stony Brook UniversityNearby Stony Brook University (SBU) is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities. SBU offers nationally ranked doctoral programs and is home to many interdisciplinary research centers including the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology, the Advanced Energy Center, and two Centers of Advanced Technology, in Biotechnology and in Sensors. Stony Brook is a partner in managing BNL for the Department of Energy, and is the largest institutional scientific user of BNL facilities.
