Training & Qualifications (Training Records) | Staff Development Course Calendar PE108SI - What Supervisors Need to Know About Sexual HarassmentWeb Course: To register, contact Starr Munson This web-based training program is offered to satisfy the requirements of both Title VII and BNL Policy for mandatory supervisory education on the subject of Sexual Harassment. In this "cyberspace office", the supervisor must deal with five harassment scenarios. The purpose of this one-hour training program is to sensitize supervisors to issues and their responsibilities in handling sexual harassment complaints. This training can be conveniently taken at any PC. PE108S is an equivalent course to this and will satisfy the requirements for supervisory education. PE105S - InterventionTo Register: To register, contact Starr Munson This mandatory three-hour course provides managers and supervisors with the awareness and skills to recognize and deal with the problem of substance abuse as it impacts job performance. This course provides an understanding of the scope of the problem and the cost to organizations and individuals. Participants learn to recognize the work-related symptoms of drug and alcohol abuse and how to make referrals of employees to the Employee Assistance Program. Participants gain an understanding of the Laboratory's drug and alcohol policy and are provided with guidance to take the appropriate disciplinary action when performance problems persist. Supervisors gain the confidence they need to confront performance problems and make early referrals to the EAP. PE105S is an equivalent and will satisfy requirements for PE105 - Substance Abuse in the Workplace. PE119S - Introduction to EEO, Affirmative Action, and Diversity ManagementTo Register: To register, contact Starr Munson This mandatory three-hour course for supervisors and managers provides information on compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity Laws, Affirmative Action, and Diversity Management. This course also includes practical ways to manage differences in a diverse workforce. The course is conducted by Shirley Kendall, Diversity Manager. PE166S - Legal Issues in Supervision Part IWeb Course: To register, contact Starr Munson This one-hour online course covers 12 employee related mistakes managers need to know related to HR practices and federal law. Topics include Violating Title IIV of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by discriminating on the basis of National origin, Race or Ethnicity, Religion or Gender; Ignoring Complaints; Committing Illegal Age Discrimination; and Violating the ADA, FMLA, NLRA, FLSA and Pregnancy Discrimination Acts. This course is a prerequisite for PE156S - Legal Issues in Supervision - Part II. PE156S - Legal Issues in Supervision Part IITo Register: To register, contact Starr Munson This half-day course will help supervisors become familiar with the major Federal laws regarding employment practices. They will learn how BNL policies and procedures relate to these laws, what to do when receiving a complaint about work issues related to these policies and laws, and how to avoid employment litigation. A web-based course, PE166S - Legal Issues in Supervision Part I, is a prerequisite and must be completed prior to attending the class. The three-hour classroom session is presented by an internal team from our Legal Office and HROM Division.
