The following prerequisites are mandatory in order to obtain a new computer account on BNL systems:
- You must have a BNL-assigned life number or guest ID number.
- Employees will receive their life number on the first day of work.
- Guests, users, and visitors who have not yet obtained a guest ID number can obtain one by filling out the Guest Registration Form.
- You must have completed the BNL On-Line CyberSecurity training.
Confirmation of Cybersecurity training may take up to 24 hours to process.
- You must have signed a BNL Computer Use Agreement. Please read about the Computer Use Agreement.
Account Type Descriptions
- BlueGene
- Provides accounts on the BlueGene computer and the SSH gateway that is used to reach it from off of the BNL site. These accounts are only available to members of the BlueGene collaboration. Please note that you will also require an RSA SecurID to access the SSH gateway. If you do not have one, you should also apply for one now.
- BNL Domain Account
- Used for access to the resources provided by the main BNL Windows domain. Resources include user home directories (secure remote folders where data can be saved), shared printers and access to various web resources.
- CFN Cluster Account
- Provides accounts on the CFN Computing Cluster. These accounts are only available to members of the CFN collaboration. Please note that you will also require a BNL SSH gateway account and an RSA SecurID to access the SSH gateway. If you do not have an SSH gateway account or an RSA SecurID account, you should also apply for them now.
- Entrust Account
- DOE-supported application for exchanging encrypted e-mails with fellow DOE personnel. For this to work all parties must have an Entrust account/certificate, which is generated by DOE Headquarters. For more information, see http://intranet.bnl.gov/cybersecurity/entrust/default.asp.
- Exchange Email
- Provides an e-mail account on the BNL Exchange Email system. This account is recommended for those who require a bnl.gov e-mail address.
- PBN SSH Gateway Account
- Provides an account on the Collider-Accelerator Department's SSH gateway systems. From the SSH gateway systems you can then connect to internal resources provided you have valid accounts on internal machines. All authentication on the PBN SSH gateway machines is via CrytpoCARD.
- QCDOC (RBRC)
- Provides accounts on the RBRC QCDOC computer and the SSH gateway that is used to reach it from off of the BNL site. These accounts are only available to members of the RBRC collaboration.
- QCDOC (US-DOE)
- Provides accounts on the US-DOE QCDOC computer and the SSH gateway that is used to reach it from off of the BNL site. These accounts are only available to members of the US-DOE QCDOC collaboration.
- RSA SecurID
- RSA SecurID is a hardware token that will be replacing CRYPTOCards. If you are a current CRYPTOCard holder, you should obtain one at your earliest convenience. Currently the SecurID token will work with ITD's SSH Gateways, with other services to follow. See http://www.bnl.gov/cybersecurity/rsa/ for additional information.
- SSH Gateway Access
- Provides an account on BNL's SSH gateway systems. From the SSH gateway systems you can then connect to internal resources provided you have valid accounts on internal machines. See http://www.bnl.gov/cybersecurity/ssh_gateway.asp for additional information.
- Subversion Account
- Subversion is an open source version control system. ITD maintains a local subversion repository for the BNL community, accessible from the internal network.
- Unix Systems
- Used for access to various Unix systems supported by the Information Technology Division (ITD), including cluster.bnl.gov.
- VPN Access
- Used in conjunction with RSA SecurID tokens to access BNL computing resources from outside the BNL perimeter. You may need this if your job requires you to work from home, abroad, or while connected to BNL's visitor network. See http://www.bnl.gov/cybersecurity/vpn/ for additional information.
