Most all the control system equipment was purchased in late 1989 and early 1990.

Right now we are in the middle of a major upgrade of the system:

Major changes to all key aspects of control system:

• Hardware platform ( VAX —>Intel server )
• Operating system ( OpenVMS —> Linux )
• Cummunications for data acquisition ( Serial Hwy. —> Ethernet )

Goals:

• Improve ATF reliability; Establish pathways for future upgrades
• Provide more services for users
• Preserve 10-year investments made in hardware/software
• Minimize disruption to scientific program; NO user retraining
• New automated tools for software development/ maintenance
