ATF Gun Hutch Optics

The figure below describes schematically the laser optics in related to the illumination of the photocathode of the rf gun. The intensity, beam size and polarization of the laser beam are controlled in the Nd:YAG laser room. This portion of the Nd:YAG laser system is in the UV (4th harmonic).  The optics provides for the following features:

Steering control of the laser on the cathode.

• Control of the elipticity of the beam on the cathode.

• Control over the time slew of the laser wavefront.

• Beam energy diagnostics.

• Beam shape diagnostics.

• Imaging.
