Linac
operation – Turn on Procedure – May 6, 2003 |

- Turn on monitors and oscilloscopes. |

- Start up computers and login in. |
- Open the GUI controller “atf” and distribute four
sliders “Gun Phase”, “Gun Attenuator”, “Linac
Phase” and “Linac Attenuator” at the bottom of
monitor. |

| - According to the check list:
· RF Levels At Zero - On GUI controller, make sure no power
is fed to cavities. –
· Reset Radiation Alarm Panel – All indicators should
be green. –

| |
· Linac WaterTemp. – Measure the temp. of linac
body – |
 
|
· L.E.B.T. Gate Secured - Steel-mesh type gate – |
| |
H.E.B.T. Plug Door Secured – Big wall under the mezzanine
– |
 
|
· Gun Temp. Setting Point - Pre-set temp. of chiller -
& increase temp. 1 deg. |
 
|
· Laser Secured – Indicator of laser secured should
be on – |
 
|
· Vacuum at Mezzanine |
 
|
· Open three gate valves “Gun Valve”, “HEBT
Valve” and “Experimental Hall Valve” after making
sure the pressure is OK. |
 
|
· AC Power On: Modulators – Feed HV to modulator
of rf – |
|
- Turn on flame grabber boards and run with “Continuous” |
- Feed RF powers to RF gun and Linac, observing the oscillo-
scope.
Forward to RF gun should be within the dotted line.
Input to linac should be within a display of oscilloscope.
Wait 10 minutes until the reflection of RF becomes minimum.

- Adjust the temperature of chiller.
Reflection from RF gun should be flat near zero.
|
- Restore the data and drive linac |
- On the GUI controller, tune the injector as follows; |
· Click “Front End Laser Optics”
· Open UV shutter and laser shutter
· Insert the screen LPOP-UP1
· Tune the gun phase so that the charge is at maximum.
Oscilloscope range is set to be 5 V/div.
· At the next computer, start up “Beam diagnostic.mad”
and choose “Math” -> “Calculate Worksheet”
-e.g., charge v.s. injection phase is automatically
measured.
-Print out the result (only 2nd page).

Linac operation – Sending e-beam to experimental
hall –
|
- Pick up four keys, #25 to #28 from the key box. |
 
|
- Fill out the log. |
- Insert the key #25 (permit #1) to the position #1 and turn
to the right. |
- Insert the key #26 (permit #2) to the position #2. |
 
|
- Insert the key #27 to the position “Right”. |
- Insert the key #28 to the position “Left”. |
| At Entrance of Experimental hall |
- Enter the experimental hall and make sure nobody is there. |
- Make an announcement, “Attention, experimental hall will
be interlocked now.” |
- Push the button #5, #4, #3, and #2. |

- Turn off the light of experimental hall |
- Push the small black button at the right of the entrance and
open the door. |

- Close the door and push the button #1 until the indicator on.

At
the entrance of experimental hall
|
- Turn the key #26 to the right and push green button. ->
open the gate. |
