SATURDAY, MAY 24, 2014

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebration

Come and join us in our celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at the Vajiradhammapadip Buddhist Temple and Thai Cultural Center! The 6th annual celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is co-sponsored by multiple local groups, including BNL, and hosted by the Suffolk County Office Asian American Advisory Board. There will be dance, music, and vocal performances from several Asian countries, multi-cultural booths with arts and crafts displays, workshops, and the presentation of awards.   FREE from 1pm to 5pm.

This year, Dr. Wu-Tsung Weng, of the Collider-Accelerator Department, was nominated by the BNL APAA for an award and has been selected to be honored at this event as a distinguished Asian American professional. He will be presented with a proclamation by the Suffolk County Executive during the 4:30pm theater performance (tickets required).  Please join us at this event in congratulating Dr. Weng for this recognition!

The Sixth Annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration is organized by Suffolk County Asian American Advisory Board; Suffolk County Office of Minority Affairs; Wellbrook Foundation, Inc.; and the Vajiradhammapadip Buddhist Temple & Thai Cultural Center. The event is co-sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union and  Brookhaven National Laboratory in collaboration with our partners from the Campus Activities and Student Leadership Development of Suffolk County Community College,  Center for Chinese Learning at Stony Brook, Girl Scouts of Suffolk County, Earthub.Net, Holiday Inn Express Hotel Stony Brook, Long Island Laparoscopic Surgery, New York Life Insurance , Street/Wise Talk Show at WGBB 1240 AM (Radio),  Retail, Wholesale & Department Store Union (RWDSU) Local 1102, Taiwanese American Association of Long Island (TAALI) and Truth Technologies.

A Celebration of Chinese Culture through Music & Dance

Join us mid-week for a blast of Asian culture with music, dance, and oratory performances by local artists in this special program dedicated to the unique culture of China. Indulge your senses with the warmth of traditional Chinese folk arts to the electrifying avant-garde interpretations of this ancient art form.

This event is sponsored by the BERA Asian Pacific American Association and the BNL Diversity Office.

This event is FREE and open to the public. Government-issued identification documents, which includes a photograph, such as a passport or driver's license is required for site access for those 16 years of age and older.
