BERA-IAA is proud to present a “Bollywood Evening at BNL” on Saturday Jan. 5th 2008. Sharda will bring the magic and melody of Indian film industry, popularly known as Bollywood, to BNL. A vast majority of Bollywood films are musicals with catchy music and dance numbers woven into the script. A movie’s success is often based on the quality of the music in it. This evening entertainment will consist of solo and group songs, music and dances based on Bollywood movies, with multi-media presentation of original movie scenes played in the background and Ghazals, performed mostly by Sharda.
Sharda is a very popular Bollywood singer and has sung a number of hit songs under the direction of famous directors such as Shanker Jaikishan, Ravi, Usha Khanna and Iqbal Quraishi and with the famous singers such as Mahmood, Md. Raffi and Mukesh. She is well known for songs like “Titli Udi”, Ud Jo Chali”, and “Duniya Ki Sair Karlo” and has won the prestigious Film Fare award twice. In addition to singing, her skills have extended to the music direction in socially sensitive movies such as Mandir Masjid, Gharibi Hatao, as well as writing lyrics. She has also been music director in movies produced for UNICEF. Recently she has been involved in developing programs dealing with the elimination of drugs addiction, AIDS, environmental and children’s issues, doing research on music and voice culture and producing an audio album of Ghazals-poetry consisting of couplets which share a rhyme and refrain.
