ARTICLE I
NAME:
The club shall be known as the BERA Racquetball League.
ARTICLE II
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the league shall be:
a. To promote sportsmanship and knowledge of the sport of racquetball.
b. To provide an avenue of exercise and commradery among BNL personnel.
ARTICLE III
MEMBERSHIP:
The league shall be open to all BERA Members. For this
clubs purposes, BERA Members are employees and retired employees of BNL, BSA or
the BNL Area Office of the U.S. Department of Energy; persons with BNL or BSA
guest and visiting appointments; employees of permanent on-site employers (such
as cafeteria, bank, Upton Post Office, etc.), and immediate family members of at
least 18 years of age.
The right to vote on amendments to this Constitution and
its Bylaws, and on the election of Officers and Trustees, is reserved for those
persons from the groups mentioned in the first paragraph of this section.
ARTICLE IV
LEAGUE PLAY:
League matches will be held on Thursday evenings according
to a predetermined schedule. The season consists of two halves. Matches are to
be held (at the time of this writing) at the L.I. Racquetime Facility located in
Farmingville, NY.
FEES: Annual membership fees are required to be paid to the L.I. Racquetime Facility. In addition to the L.I. Racquetime membership fees, Court fees of $4.00 per night per person are charged and payable to the BERA Racquetball League Treasurer before each half of the season begins.
ARTICLE V
MEETINGS:
Executive Board Meetings will be held as necessary.
ARTICLE VI
OFFICERS:
a. The Officers shall consist of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Activities Coordinator.
b. Officers shall be elected to a term of one (1) year beginning June 1. Officers may be re-elected.
c. In the event of a vacancy in any office, the Executive Board shall nominate a member to fill the vacancy for the un-expired term, and notify the membership of same.
d. Election of
Officers will be conducted at the Annual Awards Dinner at the end of each
season. Nominations are made prior
to that event. Votes will be taken
and elected Officers announced at this event.
ARTICLE VII
AMENDMENTS:
Amendments to this Constitution may be made after discussion and vote of the Executive Board members.
B Y - L A W S
DUTIES OF OFFICERS:
a. Chair - The
Chair shall preside at all meetings of the Executive Board and shall generally
function as the League's chief executive in all duties as are incidental to the
office and are properly required of him or her.
b. Vice-Chair
- In the absence of the Chair, the Vice-Chair shall exercise all of the
functions of Chair, and be vested with all of the Chair's powers.
c. Secretary -
The Secretary shall have charge of all League correspondence and papers,
preparing such records and reports as are necessary to document the affairs of
the League, in an orderly manner.
d. Treasurer -
The Treasurer shall have charge of all funds of the League, and shall conduct
its banking business and audit all accounts.
Checks drawn shall be signed by the Treasurer, or in special instances,
may be signed by the Chair. The entire Executive Board and Officers are
financially responsible to the Treasurer. The
Treasurer is financially responsible to the League Membership.
e. Activities Coordinator - The Activities Coordinator will attend all meetings and shall plan and coordinate any special events that may take place during the season.
MEETINGS:
The officers constitute the Executive Board.
Executive Board meetings will be held a minimum of four times during the
season. The Executive Board shall
have the final decision in establishing the season's schedule and placing
players together on the court as they deem appropriate.
MEMBERSHIP:
Proposals for membership or applications for membership
shall be made in writing to the Treasurer and must be accompanied by the
appropriate fee for payment of annual dues.
The Executive Board may, with a majority vote, deny
previous members participation due to poor attendance; i.e., if more than three
matches are missed for reasons other than illness or official business during
any one season.
Resignation of any member shall be in writing to any one of
the Executive Board members. Such
resignations do not secure refund of any fees paid for membership.
Disciplinary proceedings or suspension of a member for actions not appropriate to the League purpose will be decided by the Executive Board. Notification will be in writing, with copies to the BERA Board and Recreation Supervisor. Reinstatement will be subject to review of the Executive Board.
