"It is worth noting that our Association comes into being 90 years after a
Declaration of War in 1917. Within months, Camp Upton was carved out of the
beauty that surrounds us; as a place where countless thousands prepared for
the perils of war; many of whom were sacrificed "on the altar of freedom".
After the War to End all Wars, nature reclaimed Upton but a generation later
these silent acres came to life again as young patriots came to answer a new
call. Members of this Association who thrive here daily can be comforted in
the knowledge that this is now a place of peaceful industry.
Though we were soldiers in another era and veterans in a new century, we
have become the stewards of the history that was written here."
