Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) binds to human kidney proximal cells and the putative receptors are identified as glycosphingolipids. The crystal structure of SEB in complex with sialyllactose reveals the binding site of the sugar moiety of the glycosphingolipid GM3. The SEB molecule is shown as ribbons. Residues interacting with sialyllactose (red van der Waals surface) and those interacting with the sugar (blue surface) are shown as ball and stick models.
