William Hempfling
Director, Human Resources & Occupational Medicine Division
Responsible
for a staff of approximately 50 professionals who are responsible
for the recruitment and retention of diverse and talented staff,
administering the Laboratory's compensation and benefit programs,
employee relations, management and staff development, employee
wellness programs, employee assistance services, occupational
medical programs, oversight of the guest information system, human
resources information system, and administering the contracts for
the 3 on-site unions.
Vision
The Human Resources and Occupational Medicine Division, in partnership
with all Laboratory organizations, ensures a diverse, qualified,
healthy, and highly motivated workforce focused on achieving the
critical outcomes, through the development and administration of
cost-effective and results-oriented human resource and occupational
medicine programs, policies, services, and practices.

- B.S. in Marketing from Fairfield University
- Employee Relations Law Certificate from Antioch Law School
- Certificate in Employee and Labor Relations from Cornell
University
- Member of American Arbitration Association
- Member of Industrial Relations Research Association
- Labor Arbitrator for New York State Employment Relations Board
- Member of Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution
- Labor Relations Manager at Brookhaven National Laboratory from
1982 to 2000.
- Held a variety of management positions, both staff and line, at
Brooklyn Union Gas Company from 1968 until joining the Laboratory as
Training & Development Administrator in 1980.
