Laboratory Holiday Schedule

The Laboratory designates eleven and one-half days in each calendar year as observed holidays. A holiday is defined as a specified period when normal Laboratory operations are suspended and eligible employees are excused from work at no loss in pay. The holiday benefit is extended, by means of additional pay or other compensation, to eligible employees who are required or not scheduled to work during the designated period. In addition to the regularly established Laboratory holidays, the Director may declare a "Special Holiday" in response to a Presidential proclamation.

* The Christmas Eve Half-Holiday consists of the last four hours of regularly scheduled work preceding Christmas Day. A holiday which occurs on a Saturday is observed on the prior Friday; a holiday which occurs on a Sunday is observed on the succeeding Monday.

One of ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies and national security. Brookhaven Lab also builds and operates major scientific facilities available to university, industry and government researchers. Brookhaven is operated and managed for DOE's Office of Science by Brookhaven Science Associates, a limited-liability company founded by the Research Foundation of State University of New York on behalf of Stony Brook University, the largest academic user of Laboratory facilities, and Battelle, a nonprofit, applied science and technology organization.
