Brookhaven National Laboratory Plan, 2009 – 2018

Major Activities/Lab Initiatives

Resources Required

All of these initiatives require various resources to meet important milestones and bring them to fruition:

Photon Sciences: Funding for NSLS-II construction, beamlines, and operations; and world-class project team, BNL, and stakeholder support for the project.

Collective QCD Phenomena: Full funding for RHIC operations and upgrades, including the new RHIC ion source known as EBIS; expansion of computational facilities; and Brookhaven, scientific community, and DOE support for EIC R&D, leading to construction near the end of the 10-year period.

Energy: Full funding for NSLS, NSLS-II, and CFN operations; funding for new and renovated lab space through DOE’s Science Laboratories Infrastructure Program; strong partnerships with academia, industry, and other national labs; Laboratory discretionary investments in targeted areas, and leadership in applied sciences.

Physics of the Universe: Upgrades to the Lab’s computing facilities and renovations to science laboratories supporting accelerator systems and detector R&D.
