Bulletin Classified Ad Policy
-
Only active and retired employees of Brookhaven
National Laboratory, on-site employees of Brookhaven Science
Associates, and the U.S. Department of Energy, and permanent
employees of service organizations on site may place classified
advertisements with The Bulletin.
-
Fill out each form completely, checking the
appropriate boxes and providing all the information requested.
-
On the web, employees may enter several advertisements in any or
all categories. Space permitting, the advertisements on the web
on Tuesday morning are reproduced in the paper Bulletin issued
on the following Friday. For the printed Bulletin, each employee is limited
to one advertisement in each category per week, unless there is
extra room for the other ads. If an employee has two or more ads in one
category, the editor will take the first in the list for the
printed version.
- Each employee may have more than one
advertisement listed in the “Services” category at any given
time.
- The Bulletin reserves the right to edit or reject
any classified advertisement that is not up to standards or deemed
suitable.
Sales and Notices
-
"Sales and Notices" shall constitute all ads
submitted and printed under the following headings in The
Bulletin:
Motor Vehicles & Supplies, Boats & Marine Supplies,
Furnishings & Appliances,
Tools, House & Garden,
Sports, Hobbies & Pets,
Audio, Video & Computers,
Miscellaneous,
Yard & Garage Sales,
Lost & Found,
Free,
Community Involvement,
Car Pools,
Wanted,
Farewell Gatherings,
Happenings, and
In Appreciation.
-
Items offered for sale or mentioned within
notices must be owned by the employee who is advertising them or
by members of their immediate family living within the same
household.
-
Concert, opera, theater, and other tickets
offered for sale must be advertised at the tickets’ face value or
less, but not more.
-
Farewell gatherings must be scheduled for after
working hours; these announcements may run a maximum of two times.
-
In filling out the Sales & Notices form, use no
more than 20 words maximum for an advertisement.
-
By submitting an ad for a firearm, the submitter agrees that the
transaction of the firearm will not occur on the Laboratory site,
and that the transaction will meet the requirements of all local,
state, and federal laws regulating such transactions.
-
In the Community Involvement category, employees,
retirees, and visiting facility-users may advertise community,
charity, and club events and sales in which they are involved. Any
proceeds from these sales must go to that nonprofit entity.
Real Estate
-
"Real Estate" shall constitute all ads submitted
and printed under the following headings in The Bulletin:
-
Use the Real Estate form to advertise the sale or
rent of property, including houses, apartments, cooperatives,
rooms, and land.
-
Real estate for sale or rent must be owned by the
employee who is advertising it and must be offered for sale or
rent by that employee without the assistance of a real-estate
agent.
-
Employees listing real estate can do so only by
agreeing that their real estate is available without regard to
race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, or
veteran status.
-
If employees must sublet property that they do
not own, but for which they have a lease that obliges them for the
remainder of the rent, then, to advertise that property for rent,
the employees must obtain the landlords’ signatures on the
Supplemental Real Estate form, agreeing that the property is
available without regard to ace, color, religion, sex, age,
national origin, disability, or veteran status.
-
In filling out the Real Estate form, use no more
than 30 words maximum for the advertisement.
Services
-
Services are neither screened nor recommended by the Bulletin.
-
Use the Services form to advertise that you or
members of your immediate family living within the same household
are willing and qualified to perform work for others.
-
Services must be performed by the employees who
are advertising them or members of their immediate family living
within the same household.
-
No advertisement for services that are offered in
association with regular businesses or commercial enterprises will
be accepted.
-
In filling out the Services forms, use no more
than 20 words maximum for the advertisement.
Deadlines and Publication Days
-
The deadline for submission of completed "Sales &
Notices" and "Real Estate" forms is noon on Friday, one week
prior to the Friday that you wish the ad to appear in print.
-
"Sales &
Notices" and "Real Estate" advertisements are published every Friday in The Bulletin,
space permitting.
-
There is no deadline for submissions of completed
"Services" forms as service advertisements are available on the
Bulletin's web site and are no longer printed in the Bulletin at
regular intervals.
-
Each advertisement is run only once and must be
resubmitted by the employee to be repeated.
-
Advertisements submitted on time but withheld
from publication due to lack of space do not have to be
resubmitted, as they will be published automatically the following
week.
