SMALL BUSINESS CONFERENCE AT BROOKHAVEN LAB, OCT. 29

Upton, NY - Representatives of small businesses are invited to attend a "Small and Small Disadvantaged Business Conference and Fair" at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Tuesday, October 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The conference is free and no preregistration is required.

At the conference, to be held at the Brookhaven Center, small companies and small disadvantaged companies will learn how to do business with the federal government and its prime contractors on Long Island.

Congressman Michael P. Forbes will give the keynote speech at 10 a.m. Following his address, workshops will be held on how to satisfy the acquisition needs of the federal government and its local contractors, and how to increase small and small disadvantaged business participation in this endeavor.

Afterwards, attendees can meet individually with buyers, contract specialists and technical representatives from Brookhaven Lab and other government contractors. In addition, tours of Laboratory facilities will be available.

The Lab has an annual procurement budget of almost $200 million, of which $50 million was spent on Long Island during the last fiscal year. With a staff of 3,200 employees, Brookhaven supports basic and applied research in the physical, biomedical and environmental sciences and in selected energy technologies.

For more information about the conference, call the Lab's Division of Contracts and Procurement at (516)344-3173 or 7187. Brookhaven is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the Long Island Expressway.
