HOLIDAY MEAL FOR SENIOR CITIZENS TO BE PREPARED AT BROOKHAVEN LAB BY AMERICAN RED CROSS

At the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory, American Red Cross staff and volunteers will prepare a special holiday meal for 650 senior citizens in Brookhaven Town. Fresh ham, sweet potatoes and the rest of the fixings will be delivered fresh to seniors at six centers and frozen to homebound seniors in time for Christmas. The Lab has donated the use of its fully equipped industrial kitchen to the American Red Cross since 1985. Not just for the holidays, but each weekday, meals are prepared in the Lab kitchen for seniors by: (from left) Sharon Seruggs, Red Cross staff member; George Laeczo, volunteer; Julio Caldiero, a worker from the Suffolk County Senior Employment Program; and the balance of the Red Cross kitchen staff, Debra DiVita; Joseph Siciliano; John Mathis; Nancy Garcia; Joan Kalivas, kitchen supervisor; and Novella Ferguson.
