The U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory was recently honored by the Mid Suffolk Tech-Prep Consortium of Bellport, Long Island, for supporting high-tech career education programs. Brookhaven Lab's Renée Flack and Karl Swyler accepted a certificate of appreciation from Tech-Prep's John Volont (right). Supported primarily by the New York State Education Department and federal funds, the Mid Suffolk Tech-Prep Consortium provides applied and technical courses for high school and college students to help prepare them for careers in a high-tech workplace. Last year, Brookhaven Lab hired eight Suffolk County Community College students who learned skills while they worked part-time at the Laboratory in such fields as computer technology, electronics and biology.
