TWO LONG ISLAND BUSINESSES HONORED AT BROOKHAVEN LAB'S SMALL BUSINESS CONFERENCE

At Brookhaven National Laboratory's seventh Small Business Conference, Laboratory Director John Marburger (second from right) and Brookhaven's small/small disadvantaged business liaison and the conference coordinator Dennis Hall (third from left) presented awards to two small, minority-owned Long Island businesses.

Scott Bopal and Victor Ancelson (first and second from left) of Power Resources International, a Farmingdale-based business, accepted an award for their company's outstanding growth through Brookhaven's mentorship program during 1997-98; and Syed Ali (first on right), president of Laser International of Melville, received an award for his company's outstanding professionalism, dedication and timeliness in servicing the Brookhaven account during the last two years. Brookhaven Lab buyer Fred Rodriguez (third from right) received an award for excellence in supporting small, minority-owned businesses.

Over 100 small businesses attended the conference held at the U.S. Department of Energy Laboratory's Brookhaven Lab in Upton. The goal of the biennial conference is to promote a supportive relationship between the Laboratory and the small business community. Brookhaven offers training on how businesses can supply Brookhaven and other federal contractors with needed goods and services. In 1998, Brookhaven spent more than $68 million on various goods and services purchased from small businesses.
