‘An Evening of Jazz’ at Brookhaven Lab, March 5
UPTON, NY- The U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National
Laboratory will sponsor “An Evening of Jazz,” featuring the Oak Street
Quartet, and the William Floyd High School Jazz Ensemble, on Tuesday,
March 5, at 7 p.m. in the Laboratory’s Berkner Hall. The concert is open
to the public, and a donation for tickets is suggested.

The Oak
Street Quartet
|
Formed in 1999 by bassist Stephen Bennett, the Oak Street Quartet,
better known as OSQ, performs a range of instrumental and vocal jazz,
including swing, bop, contemporary, and pop-tune arrangements. OSQ
performs regularly on Friday nights at the Elk Street Grille in Port
Jefferson, and the group has recorded a CD of jazz standards. In addition
to Bennett, the quartet includes saxophonist Chris Forte, pianist Bob
Gelabert, and drummer Mike White, a senior chemist at Brookhaven Lab.
The William Floyd High School Jazz Ensemble is a 25-piece band that
performs a repertoire of big band, swing, blues and contemporary funk
electric music under the direction of Michael Cordaro. For the third
consecutive year, William Floyd High School in 2001 was recognized as a
GRAMMY Signature High School — an honor given to school districts
nationwide that promote and preserve music education as a key part of the
curriculum.

Tickets may be purchased at the door, or in advance at the Brookhaven
Employees Recreation Association sales office in the Laboratory’s Berkner
Hall on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at William Floyd High School, or
at the Elk Street Grille. The suggested donation for tickets is $3 each.
All proceeds will go toward the support of William Floyd High School music

Everyone over 16 years old who visits Brookhaven Lab must show a photo
ID before entering the site. The Laboratory is located on William Floyd
Parkway, one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the Long Island
Expressway.
