Brookhaven Lab Hosts Science Competition for Students From Historically Black Colleges & Universities
EVENT: About 300 students primarily from the nation’s historically black colleges and universities, as well as other universities from throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico, will present their scientific research results in a competition, vying for cash prizes and the attention of graduate schools and potential employers. The event is closed to the general public because of space limitations.

DETAILS: Hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory, the science competition is part of the 60th joint annual meeting of the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society, the National Institute of Science, and the Brookhaven Semester Program. The competition is a national forum in which students exchange scientific data gathered through supervised research that they have performed at various scientific institutions. The conference is held to stimulate an interest in careers in science, health and technology among diverse students. Volunteers from Brookhaven Lab, Hofstra University, Stony Brook University and the State University of New York at Farmingdale will judge the students’ scientific papers in the areas of biology, chemistry, toxicology/ pharmacology, computer science, mathematics, physics, psychology and science education.
