“Kerry Kearney Band and the Gathering of the Slides” at Brookhaven Lab, Mar. 1
UPTON,
NY - “Kerry Kearney Band and the Gathering of the Slides,” a
blues concert featuring slide guitarists, will be held at the
U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory on
Saturday, March 1, at 8 p.m. Sponsored by the BNL Music Club and
the Long Island Blues Society, the two-hour concert will be open
to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over
must bring a photo ID.
In addition to Long Island guitarist/singer/songwriter Kerry Kearney and his band, guest artists will include Michael Falzarano, Kane Daly, Little Toby Walker, and Amy Helm. Kearney and guests are masters of the “slide,” a type of guitar-playing in which a piece of glass or steel is slid along the strings of an acoustic or electric guitar, creating piercing sounds so well-suited to the blues.
Whether performing in front of thousands, as he has done at four Riverhead Blues Festivals, or jamming at a small club, Kearney and his band are greeted with great enthusiasm. Kearney has been opening for the Allman Brothers Band on their west coast tours. Kearney and his band, including Eileen “Little Steamroller” Murphy on drums, Frank Celenza on bass, and Tony Campo on keyboards, will headline the concert.
Guest
artist Michael Falzarano, veteran guitarist for Hot Tuna, has
made recordings with his own band, The Memphis Pilgrims. He
currently performs a mix of folk, blues and rock with the band
The Crowmatix, which has opened for such big names as Taj Mahal,
Cyndi Lauper and The Band. In addition, local artist Kane Daly
and Little Toby Walker, who headlined the BNL Music Club’s show
last fall, will round out the night.
Also performing will be special guest Amy Helm, who has recorded and performed with Levon Helm and the Barnburners, Steely Dan and Donald Fagen. She is also featured on Kearney’s latest release, “Trippin On Psychedelta.”
Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Brookhaven Employees Recreation Association Sales Office on weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 day of the show, and free for children 16 years and younger.
For information call the BNL Music Club at 631 344-3846 or
the Long Island Blues Society at 631 467-4156. The Laboratory is
located on William Floyd Parkway, one-and-a-half miles north of
Exit 68 of the Long Island Expressway.
