Chamber Choir from Russia in Concert at
Brookhaven Lab, March 5
UPTON,
NY - The Konevets Quartet, a chamber choir from Russia, will
give a concert at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven
National Laboratory on Wednesday, March 5, at noon, in Berkner
Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. All visitors
to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.
Founded in 1992 by graduates and students of the St. Petersburg Music Conservatory, the quartet is named after Konevets Island and the 600-year-old monastery on Lake Ladoga, Russia, founded by St. Arseny Konevsky. The ensemble’s repertoire consists of Russian classical, national and folk music, as well as new and little-known Russian songs. The second major part of their repertoire is Russian sacred music, including ancient chants and hymns in original and reharmonized arrangements.
The Brookhaven concert will present a selection of secular works as well as hymns and chants of the Russian Orthodox litury sung in Church Slavonic.
For more information, call 631 344-2345. Brookhaven Lab is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the LI Expressway.
