Brookhaven Lab Receives Family-Friendly Employer Award

UPTON, NY - The Family and Children’s Association, a human services network with more than 20 locations on Long Island, has chosen the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory to receive the 2003 Long Island Family-Friendly Employer Award. Brookhaven Lab was one of four companies that received the honor in different categories; the Lab won in the category of nonprofit organization with more than 200 employees.

Established in 1947, Brookhaven Lab offers a wide range of family-friendly services and benefits to its approximately 2,900 employees. Among them are an on-site child care center, college scholarships for employees’ children, an employee assistance program that offers professional counseling services, maternity and paternity leave, sick leave for family illness, numerous recreational clubs and activities for employees and their families, and periodic surveys or reviews of employees’ needs.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies.
