EPA’s Performance Track Announces New Members

Washington, D.C. - EPA is announcing 19 new facilities from 11 states and Puerto Rico for membership in the National Environmental Performance Track Program. Performance Track rewards facilities that voluntarily exceed regulatory requirements, implement systems for improving environmental management, work with their communities, and set three-year goals for improvements in environmental performance.

Only facilities with a record of sustained compliance with environmental requirements are eligible to participate in this program. Performance Track recognizes these companies as environmental leaders because they deliver environmental results beyond what is expected or required. These companies demonstrate on a daily basis that economic prosperity and environmental protection can go hand in hand.

Performance Track members represent a cross-section of the economy: electronics, medical and chemical products, machinery, pharmaceuticals, transportation equipment, and wood products. Participating facilities receive a low priority status for routine inspections; reduced regulatory, administrative and reporting burdens; and public recognition. These benefits translate to greater efficiency and reduced costs for both Performance Track facilities and environmental regulators.

Several Performance Track companies have expanded their membership by adding new facilities - DuPont; International Paper; Montenay Power Corp.; Motorola Inc.; Pfizer Pharmaceuticals LLC; Rockwell Collins; and Visteon Corp.

Two companies joined the program and have multiple facilities: International Rectifier Corp. and Forever Resorts. International Rectifier members are the HEXFET facility, Temecula, Calif., and the El Segundo facility, El Segundo, Calif. The four Forever Resorts members will minimize environmental impacts in various ways. For example, Signal Mountain Lodge in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park, has committed to using recycled building materials and purchasing wind energy to offset greenhouse gas releases associated with travel to the resort.

Other new Performance Track members are: Arizona Chemical, Dover, Ohio; DuPont - Mt. Clemens Plant, Mt. Clemens, Mich.; DuPont EKC Technology, Hayward, Calif.; Georgia-Pacific Resins Inc. - Russellville Chemicals, Russellville, N.C.; Kodak Colorado Division Windsor, Colo.; Rocky Mountain Park Company/Holiday Inn, Estes Park, Colo; Montenay Bay, Panama City, Fla.; Motorola Inc., Plantation, Fla.; Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Vega Baja, Puerto Rico; Visteon - Sheldon Road Plant, Plymouth, Mich.; and WaferTech, Camas, Wash.

EPA also welcomes the Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, N.Y., which has committed to restoring and conserving 30 acres of habitat, and Yankee Freedom II - Dry Tortugas National Park Ferry, Key West, Fla., the first ferry service to join the program. The first facilities from Kansas and Nevada joined Performance Track this round -the Wichita Rockwell Collins Service Center in Wichita, Kan., and Black Canyon Willow Beach River Adventures, Boulder City, Nev., and the Cottonwood Cove Resort and Marina, Searchlight, Nev.
