ACS 2005 BNL Newsroom
The American Chemical Society's
229th National Meeting will be held in San Diego, March 13-17, 2005.
Thirty of the society's technical divisions, two secretariats, and nine
committees will participate in just over 930 technical sessions. More than
9,200 papers will be presented. Papers on the topics below will be presented
by scientists from Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Scientists Create, Study Methane Hydrates in "Ocean Floor" Lab
Scientists at Brookhaven National Laboratory have recreated the high-pressure, low-temperature conditions of the seafloor in a tabletop apparatus for the study of methane-hydrates, an abundant but currently out-of-reach source of natural gas trapped within sediments below the ocean floor. Presentation will take place on March 13, at 3:05 p.m. in room Madeleine C-D of the Hyatt Regency.
Moving Electrons at the Molecular and Nanometer Scales
Learning how to control the movement of electrons on the molecular and nanometer scales could help scientists devise small-scale circuits for a wide variety of applications, including more efficient ways of storing and using solar energy. Talk will take place March 14, at 10 a.m. in Room 8 of the San Diego Convention Center.
Ceria Nanoparticles Catalyze Reactions for Cleaner-Fuel Future
Experiments on ceria (cerium oxide) nanoparticles carried out at Brookhaven National Laboratory may lead to catalytic converters that are better at cleaning up auto exhaust, and/or to more-efficient ways of generating hydrogen. Talk will be given March 15, at 8:15 a.m. in room Del Mar A of the Hyatt Regency
