Rowe, (631) 344-5056 Summer Sunday Tours at Brookhaven Lab, July 11 - August 22June 4, 2004 Upton, NY - Summer Sunday tours of the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory will feature several new exhibits, an updated science show, a special guest on the first tour day, and an inside look at the Laboratory's world-class facilities, such as the National Synchrotron Light Source and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. ![]() Both adults and children will enjoy the magic of science at the"Whiz Bang Science Show," offered during Brookhavens Summer Sunday tours. A different tour will be featured each Sunday from July 11 through August 22. Tours are free and no reservations are needed. Visitors may arrive any time between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. All visitors age 16 and over must bring a photo ID. A new hands-on "Light & Color" exhibit produced by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry will provide a variety of interactive experiences that are interesting for both children and adults. For example, visitors will be able to view life-like holograms, split white light into a rainbow of colors and discover the physics involved in light refraction and fluorescence. On display will be a new exhibit on the 2003 Nobel Prize in Chemistry won, in part, because of research done at the Light Source. Also, local high school students will demonstrate robots they had built for a national competition. Featuring some new segments and special effects this year, the educational and entertaining "Whiz Bang Science Show" will be staged at 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. every Sunday during the summer program except at 1:30 p.m. on July 11, when special guest speaker John Lienhard will be featured. In addition, the Camp Upton Historical Collection, which contains photos and memorabilia from World Wars I and II, will be on display. The tour schedule follows:
