CARE 2013 B

Career Advancement in a Research Environment

Motivation

Career Advancement in Research Environment (CARE) 2013B is a follow-up of the CARE 2012 and CARE 2013 workshops, offered to early career scientists and engineers in STEM fields at BNL (including guests and users) and SBU. This one-day workshop will develop participants’ skills and reinforce strategies needed for research grant writing. The CARE 2013 Focus Groups will present their goals and accomplishments.

Formation of new Focus Groups will allow participants to interact, network, and build professional collaborations with peers. The role of Mentorship in career advancement will be explored through a review of the CARE 2012 Mentorship session, a presentation on the BNL Mentorship program, and a panel discussion.

Topics or Session Information

The workshop will be divided into two broad categories:

  • Proposal Writing: Participants will learn proven techniques for planning, writing, organizing, and editing grant proposals. Information on the BNL Proposal Center will be presented. The CARE 2013 Focus Groups will share their goals and accomplishments in a series of brief presentations. A platform for the formation of new Focus Groups will be provided.
  • Mentorship: This session will begin with a review of the input from CARE 2012 Mentorship session. There will be a presentation on the Mentorship program being developed at BNL. A panel discussion on the need for a parallel networking or informal/group mentorship program will follow.

Participation

Early career STEM scientific and technical staff members (including postdocs) are encouraged to register as soon as possible by clicking on the "Registration" tab or "Begin Workshop Registration" button shown above.
