Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Amended

1984

Congress declared the generation of hazardous waste to be reduced or eliminated as expeditiously as possible by amending the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) to address hazardous and solid wastes. The Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments of 1984 called for phasing out land disposal of hazardous wastes. Broadly, waste that was generated was to be treated, stored, or disposed of so as to minimize the present and future threat to human health and the environment.
