Contaminated Soil Found
During a 1992 excavation for an addition to the south side of Building 479, PCB and petroleum-contaminated soil was discovered. Central Shops, Building 479, is a heavy machine shop where lubricating oils, cutting oils, and degreasing solvents are used.
In March 1993, approximately 260 cubic yards of contaminated soil was excavated and disposed of off-site. The building addition was constructed over the cleanup area.
