Superfund Interagency Agreement Signed

February 1992

The Interagency Agreement (IAG) among the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and the U.S. Department of Energy, to ensure compliance with the Superfund law, was signed by all parties on February 28, 1992.

Under the IAG, 24 Areas of Concern were grouped into 7 Operable Units. The Operable Units were designated to delineate significant known or potential source areas of contamination. Ultimately, Remedial Investigations, a Feasibility Study, a preferred remedy was identified, and a Record of Decision would be prepared for each Operable Unit.
