Safe Drinking Water Act Amended

1996

The Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments of 1996 called for sound science and risk-based standard setting, small water supply system flexibility, and technical assistance, community-empowered source water assessment and protection, public right-to-know, and water system infrastructure assistance through a multi-billion-dollar state revolving loan fund. It emphasized that consumers have a right to know what is in their drinking water, where it comes from, how it is treated, and how to help protect it.

How BNL Complies

BNL publishes an Annual Consumer Confidence Report to provide an overview of water quality during the previous calendar year. The report includes where the water comes from, what analytical testing is conducted, the results of the tests, and how the results compare to state standards.
