Upgrades Made to HFBR Systems
1999

Installing the spent fuel pool liner
Following the discovery of tritium in the groundwater downgradient of the High Flux Beam Reactor in 1997, upgrades were made to its piping systems. The spent fuel pool, which was determined to have leaked, was emptied and a stainless steel liner was installed to bring it into compliance with Suffolk County Sanitary Code Article 12. Installation of the liner was completed in 2000.
In 2004, additional modifications including sealing floor seams, were completed.
