Lab to Host 200-Acre Solar Farm

Long Island solar panels

The Department of Energy agreed to provide a 20-year easement to the Long Island Solar Farm (LISF), a subsidiary of BP Solar. Under a 20-year power purchase agreement with LIPA, LISF will construct a 32 megawatt solar farm on 200 acres in the southeast corner of the DOE/BNL site.

As the first utility-scale PV system in the northeast, the system presents unique opportunities for BNL researchers to study the impacts on the local power grid, facility siting and design, energy storage, and ecological impacts.
