Major Areas of Research

BNL: High Temperature Superconductivity: Prepare and characterize polycrystalline superconductors and textured thick film superconductors. Carry out x-ray diffraction and absorption experiments at National Synchrotron Light Source and neutron diffraction at High Flux Beam Reactor.

IIT: Thermal conductivity studies at low temperature of irradiated and damaged MgO crystals.

UCSD: Preparation and characterization of rocksalt structure superconductors, and superconductivity at high hydrostatic pressure.

Research Experience

Sample Preparation: Solid state sintering, induction melting and annealing, arc melting, high vacuum preparation of thin films.

Experimental Techniques: high pressure resistance measurements, x-ray diffraction, low energy electron diffraction, soft x-ray absorption experiments, neutron diffraction, electrical resistance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, thermogravimetric analysis.

Computer Technology: Analysis of data within spreadsheet (Lotus, Quattro, Excel); write and use custom fitting programs (Fortran running on PC, VMS environments); Word processing (Word, WordPerfect).
