After earning a B.Sc. Degree from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, Milinda earned his M.Sc.  and Ph.D. Degrees from the University of Houston in 2003 and 2006. After his Ph. D. Milinda worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston (TcSUH) for 2 years. In 2009, he joined the Brookhaven National Laboratory as a research associate.

Milinda's research is currently focused on x-ray and neutron scattering studies of strongly correlated systems and nanoscale structure-property relationships in functional nanomaterials.
