Mirian finished her Physics studies in 2003 at the University of Oviedo in
Spain; she then obtained a 2 year research grant from the Spanish Ministry
of Science and Technology and joined the SpLine (CRG) beamline at the ESRF
in Grenoble, France where she worked on the assembly and maintenance of a
UHV system devoted to the study of surfaces using LEED and XPS. She then
moved to the Swiss Light Source at the Paul Scherrer Institut in Switzerland
to start her PhD in the group of Urs Staub. She obtained her PhD in 2009
from the ETHZ, Swiss Federal Institue of Technology in Zürich, Switzerland
for her work on ordering phenomena and electronic transitions in Co and Mn
based A-site ordered perovskites. This work was carried out using soft x-ray
resonant diffraction as well as Neutron diffraction, XAS and
XMCD.
From August 2009 to March 2011 she worked as a post-doc in
the group of Prof. Philipp Aebi at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. There,
she studied properties of strongly correlated electron systems using XPS and
UPS.
In May 2011 Mirian joined the x-ray group at BNL. She is
involved in a joint project that aims to combine electron diffraction
and soft x-ray resonant diffraction to study fluctuations of magnetic nano-domains
in manganites.
