Vivek got his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical
Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He then worked
in a software company for a couple of years, before deciding that studying
Physics would be more fun. He got his PhD degree from Johns Hopkins
University working with Collin Broholm. On his way, he sputtered some thin
films, did some lithography, but mainly scattered some neutrons. The idea
was to try and contribute to the understanding of quantum magnetism and high
temperature superconductivity. As a postdoc, he now uses soft x-rays to
investigate such strongly correlated systems as cuprates and iron based
superconductors.
