Community Advisory Council Members Tour the Brookhaven Graphite Research ReactorCAC members toured the Brookhaven Graphite Research Reactor (BGRR) on January 5 and 6, 2010. The reactor, which operated from 1950 – 1968, is in the final stages of decommissioning. The CAC has received numerous presentations on the BGRR cleanup and decommissioning work. The tour offered the opportunity to view the project first-hand. Prior to entering the project area the CAC members received a safety briefing and donned safety gear. They were then able to view the HEPA filter system, the contamination control enclosure and airlock, visit the control trailer, and the 140 Level where they were able to observe equipment being prepared for use in the removal of the reactor’s graphite pile. < CAC Home |
