Structural
Proteome Database (SPD), an Integrated Protein Information System
With
the development of high-throughput techniques for analyzing mRNAs and
proteins, such as chip technology, mass spectrometry, and structural
genomics, biologists have an increasing need to access all types of
information about large numbers of proteins. SPD is an information system
to search, sort, compare, and integrate protein information on a large
scale. It provides an interface between biologists and various databases
of protein information, letting scientists focus on the information
that interests them instead of having to know where to find the information
and how to use many different databases. The system is designed to collect
and update the information for the scientist automatically and present
it in an analyzable form.
