Complex, Non-linear PDEs for the Study of Baryon Number Violating Electroweak Collisions


I will show how the study of certain high-energy particle collision processes, which violate standard conservation laws, can be reduced to the solution of highly non-linear PDEs. These equations describe the evolution of a wave which implodes, changes the topology of the fields, and then propagates outward. The evolution occurs, however, along a complex time path where the equations change from hyperbolic, to elliptic and then back to hyperbolic. I will illustrate computational techniques for their solution.
