AMERIFLUX - Eddy Covariance Flux Tower and Tracer Studies

The importance of the spatial and temporal variability of sources and sinks for carbon and water within the area surrounding an eddy-covariance flux tower are largely unknown. This project uses multiple perfluorocarbon tracers (PFT) to track air flow from areas within and outside the nominal footprint of a 30-meter-tall tower at an AmeriFlux (more...) site located in a pine tree plantation near Gainesville, FL. Concentrations of PFT collected at different heights on the tower are combined with data from anemometers, CO2 analyzers, and water vapor sensors to improve and validate transport models operating over the scale of the tower footprint.

BNL provides expertise in tracer technology, tower construction, instrument installation and operation, and installation of data acquisition networks, including the ability to view data acquisition remotely in real time.
