Free-Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE)

Facility Engineering and Operations (PI Lewin)

All four Free-Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE) Facilities funded by the Department of Energy Office of Science, Biological and Environmental Research use the BNL design, and were built with assistance from the BNL FACE engineering team.

The CCS&T group at BNL provides support for these and other FACE experiments in the USA and abroad. Support activities include providing engineering and technical support, monitoring operations to quality-assure performance, providing support and upgrades for control system hardware and software, linking data acquisition systems to the Internet, coordinating FACE Facility operations among FACE sites, and supporting the development of other FACE sites and related projects.

This project contributes directly to the BER Terrestrial Carbon Processes program, the U.S. Carbon Cycle Science Program, and to numerous projects of investigators separately funded for research within the FACE Facility. more...
