Jasmine Hatcher, who first came to the Lab in 2005 as a summer student through the Office of Educational Programs, has been doing research with James Wishart’s team in the Chemistry Department. She recently won a $126,000 three-year National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship to continue her studies at the City University of New York.

William Floyd High School sophomore Shannon Beattie has been working with a team of science teachers and researchers from Brookhaven National Laboratory and the Center for Advanced Radiation Sources at the University of Chicago to determine the origin of glacial erratics found on the north shore beaches of Long Island.

Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University's Center for Inclusive Education in the Graduate School have received a $1.4 million grant from the National Science Foundation to increase the competitiveness of underrepresented minority PhD students and postdoctoral trainees who are US citizens advancing into STEM careers.
