(SPSI) STEM-Prep Summer Institute [Formerly MHSAP]

A four week summer enrichment program for 9th graders who belong to an underrepresented minority group, and are enrolled in Nassau or Suffolk county NY schools. This program takes place at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

This program offers research enrichment to students who are an under-represented minority (African ancestry, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, or Pacific Islander).

Approximately 25 students are selected to participate in this four-week program.

The program consists of four one-week modules of instruction: physics, biology, chemistry, and environmental science.

Experienced educators engage the STEM-Prep Summer Institute participants in hands-on activities relating to the different types of research conducted at BNL.

Audience for This Program

Ninth Grade Minority Students

Rules & Eligibility Criteria

Students should have demonstrated ability and/or potential in science-oriented studies and activities and are currently enrolled in the ninth grade.

1. Student must be available for the duration of the entire program each day, during the four weeks.
2. Student must have reliable transportation to and from the Laboratory.

Only high schools in Suffolk County, Nassau County and Inner City Outreach schools are invited to submit nominees for participation.

**BNL does not provide transportation for the student.**
