The AGEP-T Fellowship capitalizes on the rigor and research accomplishments at SBU and BNL to build an equally productive, broader partnership aimed at helping Under Represented Minorities (URM) graduate students and postdocs develop the essential skills for success in intensive academic environments with the long term goal of creating a competitive and diverse pool of enthusiastic, ambitious and creative educators with the capacity to be leaders in academia and industry.
Candidates will be selected based on eligibility, program expectations, and research proposals. Overriding consideration, when evaluating the application, will be the quality of the candidate. Successful candidates will serve a two-year term. The AGEP-T Fellowship includes a premium salary rate, additional funding for conferences/presentations, competitive benefits package, and relocation (for moves greater than 50 miles from BNL).
Successful applicants will meet the same legal requirements required of all BNL employees. Papers published as a result of research conducted at BNL must comply with BNL publication procedures and require submission for legal review and approval. The AGEP-T Fellowship application deadlines will be held twice a year. Successful candidates will be notified within six weeks of anticipated assignment start date. Applicants must identify a BNL researcher to mentor the proposed research, and acquire a letter of intent to nominate from the identified mentor.
The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) AGEP-T Fellowship is a strategic alliance that leverages strong existing partnerships among Stony Brook University (SBU) – Center for Inclusive Education (CIE) and Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) – Office of Educational Programs (OEP) as research partners; INCREASE, a consortium of 50 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs); and Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA), the organization of eight institutions that governs BNL (Stony Brook, Yale, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Columbia, Princeton and Battelle) as programmatic partners.
