Inner City Outreach Program

Description:
This program is sponsored by BNL and the Gateway to Higher Education. Through it,  selected 9th and 10th grade students representing the five boroughs of New York City participate in DOE's Minority High School Apprenticeship Program (MHSAP). MHSAP is designed for students who have demonstrated ability and/or potential in science-oriented studies and activities.  

Students participate in a four-week session offered during the summer. The students are brought to Long Island, in the vicinity of BNL, and housed with host volunteer families during the week. Students are provided with guidance, lodging, and transportation while in the program. On weekends, students return home to family and friends.  

BNL's scientific, professional, and technical staff is actively involved in this program that is designed to ignite and motivate high school students' interest in the sciences. Supplies are provided by the program, lodging costs are provided by the Gateway to Higher Education.

Application deadline:
Mid-April - See school guidance counselors for applications.
