DOE Internship Programs

Please note: All DOE programs have strict deadlines, please contact the Office of Educational Programs for this information. If you have funding to support a student, or you have an undergraduate who would like to volunteer to work with you, the student can be appointed through the BNL Summer Program.

DOE Student Selection Process

In order to select a DOE student you must be a registered mentor in the NEW DOE Selection System.

To register as a DOE Mentor:

1. Contact the Office of Educational Programs(OEP) at x4521 or x4000 and give only your full name (first and last names),  email address, and department to the OEP representative.
   
   
2. You will receive an email from ORAU on behalf of DOE to complete a WDTS mentor profile. In this email you will find your username and temporary password to gain access to the site.



3. Upon completion of the Mentor Profile Account, you will be able to access the DOE student applicant pool for selection.
   • Please use the following link https://www3.orau.gov/wdts with your user name and newly created password to search the applicant pool.

To select a DOE student intern:

1. Using your user name and password, login to the DOE mentor view via https://www3.orau.gov/wdts to see all of the applicants in the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship Program SULI, Community College Internship CCI, and Visiting Faculty Program VFP.
   
   
2. Once you have selected the students that you are interested in hosting in the DOE internship program, contact the student either by phone or email and discuss the project and assess if this applicant is best suited for your project. If not, select another student and repeat the interview.
   
   
3. Upon satisfaction of your selected student intern, complete a DOE Summer Student Request form (word) or a DOE Semester Student form (word) AND a New Employee/Guest Orientation Form (word) and submit these forms for signature approval to your Education Coordinator.  Please note you must indicate the Core Capability and funding source for your intended project on the Student Request form.
   
   
4. After all of the forms are completed, with all of the signatures, the Education Coordinator should submit them to OEP. OEP will make a BNL offer to the prospective student intern and make all arrangements to get the interns trained and approved for the internship.
   
   
5. The mentor will be contacted when the process is completed.
