Workshop Date: November 8, 2011
Where better to receive your science professional development than at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The Office of Educational Programs is hosting Sci-Ed Day. This day is designed to provide enrichment to both elementary and secondary teachers through a variety of workshops.
Integrate and Differentiate!
"So many subjects and students, so little time!" has recently become the mantra of many elementary teachers. Separate, overstuffed curricula and larger more heterogeneously mixed classes make it more difficult than ever to cover it all and adjust instruction to meet diverse needs.
That’s where we come in. Science is all around us. Its ‘hands on’ engagement can easily be integrated with literacy and math skills to drive instruction.
In this workshop, we’ll explore all the learning that can be derived from one common, ordinary object (you’ll just have to come to the workshop to find out what it is!).Working through our hands on activities, you’ll have a chance to make myriad curriculum connections, learn how to adjust instruction to meet diverse learning levels, collaborate with other educators and explore our Science Learning Center. You’ll have fun and leave recharged with new insights, and an extensive manual jam packed with resources for integrating literacy, math and science.
Spend the day at Brookhaven National Laboratory where cutting-edge research abounds. Meet the scientists, see the facilities, and discover the latest and greatest scientific innovations. Learn how to engage your students by incorporating current research topics into your curriculum. There will be several different workshops to choose from.
